Study and perform live with NY's premiere Balinese Gamelan, Yowana Sari, at Church of Holy Apostles in Brooklyn
Workshop includes instruction on technique, composition and ensemble skills of traditional Balinese Gamelan music. Hands on training, fun experience for individuals and entire family.
Gamelan Yowana Sari concert to follow, joined by the attendees for one piece.
Limited spots available, age 10 & up. Under 10 should be accompanied by a parent.
All musical abilities welcome.

Sacred Music at Columbia University LIVE STREAM
Yowana Sari’s program blends traditional classical dance pieces, such as Gabor and Pendet Penyambutan, with contemporary compositions by Balinese and American composers. Cecanangan and Pangenter Alit are written by I Dewa Ketut Alit, and Tire Fire, movement 1 is by Evan Ziporyn. The ensemble will also perform an interpretation of Steve Reich’s Music for Pieces of Wood on Balinese instruments.

Queens to Bali: Gamelan Yowana Sari Streaming Concert
Queens College (CUNY)-based gamelan group Gamelan Yowana Sari led by director Frederick Trumpy, will present a program on Balinese music featuring a diverse array of Balinese repertoire joined by traditional Balinese dancers. This premiere gamelan group in Queens is an ensemble dedicated to the music, culture and presentation of this art form.
This pre-recorded programwill feature works by I DewaKetut Alit, Evan Zipoyn, Steve Reich and traditional Balinese dance forms, and will include an introduction by Fred Trumpy, accompanied by a live music demonstration from the Church in the Gardens.
